‘My Gilera DNA 125 won’t start up…’
January 26, 2008 at 7:55 pm | Posted in Gilera | 12 CommentsI’ve noticed a few posts over the last few days regarding someone looking for help with a DNA that won’t start. I haven’t been impressed with the quality of the answers. They’ve obviously been replied to by people that don’t know one end of a DNA from the other, and don’t care too much about it either: you have a choice of smartarses who overcomplicate or smartarses who oversimplify.
This blog has never set itself out as an expert view, however it is the only website of it’s kind on the internet, with a clear interest in the Gilera DNA (as far as I know.) I find it strange that I have never been approached by anyone over an issue like this, after all, can anyone else say they’ve ridden a DNA all year round since 2002?
Point is of course, I have a pretty good idea what the problem is. Perhaps someone should ask me after all, if your Gilera DNA is playing up, is it so unreasonable to go to http://GileraDNA.org for advice on what might be happening?
Hi, my Gilera DNA 125 won’t start up, it was starting fine, then i turned it off, when i later started it wouldn’t start. After a few attempts, the bike now doesn’t even make any noise when i try to start it up and nothing happens. I’m new to bikes so don’t know where things are too well on the bike, so please be specific. Help
!

Gilera DNA 125 – Electric-start broken?
My Gilera DNA 125 won’t start up.. it was starting fine (i got it going several times and revved it a tiny bit), then i turned it off; when I later started it, it would attempt to, but not start up. I charged the battery – the power from the battery gets to the front (controlling the lights etc) but not the back to make it start. Have I disconnected something near the battery? The bike makes no noise what-so-ever when I try to electric-start it up. The bike should be mechanically working fine (I’ve just bought it), so I’m quite sure its to do with the electrics. Thanks a lot if you can help! Also I know how to start it up as I did it the other day on this bike, but this time it won’t do anything, no matter how hard I try! Just tested it now, and when I turn the key to the ‘on’ position, then try to start it (holding the break and start button), the back break lights do not come on, yet the permanent back light does when I put the lights on.
by BardicReally the only way to sort it out is with a wiring diagram , a strong cup of tea and several aspirin. However, have a nose around, you may spot a disconnected connection (if you see what I mean). You sure your battery is holding its charge?
If you can’t find it, it might be easier on your sanity to get a pro to look at it.by page793@…i used to have one of these ages ago, there is a fuse under the seat, right at the back which blows sometimes.that would cause it not to start. by jason cThe most likely reason for this is that the spark plug needs to either changed or at least cleaned. Two stroke engines are really hard on spark plugs, so get in to the

I had one of these for 5 years and had the same problem, wouldnt start but lights come. I also charged the battery and worked once but then stoped they dont hold charge. I replaced the battery only 40 euro and it worked perfectly.
Hope this helps.

Whilst it’s true that my second DNA has had fewer problems with starting that my old DNA (and my new DNA has an aftermarket battery,) when it’s not working it can be fixed. This still suggests dodgy inhibitor switches.

Don’t know. I find the DNA’s electrics pretty sturdy. Charging the battery or checking the battery connections seem worth a try. Beyond that seek professional help (or another website.)

iv got a gilera dna 50, and that has had problems with the rear brake light not working, but in the past week when i press the electric start it didnt work properly, i could hear in spinning slowly, and now it wont work at all, and iv been kickstarting it for a hour but nothing, so i rang up a shop and they said it could be down to the switch, or the battery is either fu**ed or just flat, and i’m totaly p***ed off with the f***ing thing !! grrrr

hi, i have a gilera dna 125cc i managed to buy everything for it 2 pass m.o.t new tyres indicators pegs e.t.c it passed m.o.t i brought it home and left it until i got insurance after two days i went to start it up but it would not start, everything works lights horn etc but the engine does not start i think it could be the spark plug wire becuase i attached the plug and it makes the same noise even if i take the plug wire off, i can hear sumthink in the carb (top part) like a rattling noise i can shake it by hand and hear the noise, but im not sure what it could be, i also noticed that the petrol is not in the pumping tube next to the carb (looks like a clear bottle) and the petrol light stays on, there are no missing wires no loose connections all fitting are in place i didnt touch a thing… i dont no what the problem could be, can anyone help thanks (it has petrol but nothing on the hoses ????) im stuck!

I have a DNA 125 CC, i was riding happily one minute and then went indoors for around an hour, when i hopped back onto it and attempted to start it it made no noise (not turning over), other than a tiny noise as if its really trying to start but dont. I’ve checked all fuses/fittings – to no avail its still f’d.
I’ve bought a battery charger, and i’m going to clean my almost new spark plug and see how it goes, i’ll post here with my results. Does anyone else have tips regarding this issue? Many thanks.
